The line "Buffy deserved better than what he could offer, but that didn't mean Spike was going to stop offering what little he had. It wasn't the size of the sacrifice that mattered..." beautifully encapsulated both Spike's insecurity and his tenacity. Thank you for making it clear that Spike recognizes Angel's mind games and is standing firmly at Buffy's side. This chapter spelled out Spike's motivation and determination clearly. It seems that Angel can't get over that he and Spike are nothing alike.

really good chapter but for the record i hate angel witha a passion. just because he screwed up his relationship with buffy doesn't mean that spike will. i hate when he does stupid crap like that. all in all though it was a really great chapter and can't wait to see whats happending next.

The confrontation between Buffy and Angel was really well written, and I loved the line "The other day you said he wsa in your heart, not your pants." Buffy's speech defending Spike was an excellent platform to let the soul information slip. I like the tension between Spike and Buffy, too. Spike with balls is a lot of fun to read.

why if you're doing the au or off canon thing don't you have Cordy there as well. In ATS she would be in a coma by now; but you could use her as a buffer between angel and spike plus some cordy/buffy angst about angel is always of the good.

Another wonderful chapter. I really love all the characters in this one...and that's saying something. I usually find Dawn and Xander irritating, but I find myself actually enjoying them in this story. Looking forward to Part Nine.

This story is smart and entertaining. The dialogue and characterizations are excellent and I love the premise. Giles may be cautious and overly critical of Buffy's choices, but he is acting in character. Dawn is very well written, whiny and pouty and manipulative. I enjoyed her interaction with Spike in the diner, especially the way she and Spike played Buffy for the extra ten bucks - Evil! Spike and Buffy are well realized, too. I can't wait for them to check in with Angel - the Wolfram and Hart situation will be a shock.
