Author's Response: Wow, thats amazing, its an honour to be recommended for anything (first time, so shocked) but especially along side such great stories like Sandara's Beneath the shadows of evil, I've been reading that religiously...I don't know what to say but thanx! :)

They're both emotional powder kegs and nowhere near over one another. Spike has no right to be angry if Buffy's with another guy, but his overreaction was certainly telling.

Thanks for making Riley an understanding, smart man in this story. he's too often vilified in fan fiction, so it's nice that he's self aware and thinking about Buffy's best interests here.

Author's Response: Thankyou so much, thats really great to hear...I'm a bit swamped at the moment with Uni work but I have one more Chapter ready, just needs editing so hopefully will be up by the end of the week, but then it might be a while before I can update again after that...

Loving the story s far. Can't wait for more.
I understand Spike has to be a bit nasty at the moment and I understand if you are finding it hard to write that part of Spike as I am trying to get through Spike's anger in one of my own fics.

Author's Response: Personally I find it quite easy to write angry Spike, its softer Spike I find harder to write, but all the angst and emotion generally I think is very difficult to bring across without seeming cheesey, which is why I appreciate reviews and comments so much because it lets me know if I've gone to far, not far enough etc...

I didn't hate Spike at all. I think he overreacted and misconstrued, but other than that, all I see is that both Buffy and he are at this very raw state. I'm glad that once they got past the initial dramatics, they both seemed to recognize that in one another and both backed off before jarring the wound any further.

I really enjoyed this chapter. They needed this initial confrontation. It'll definitely be interesting to see what comes next.

Author's Response: Thanx, usually there isn't a good response to Riley if he enters as a love interest, so I'm glad you don't mind him being there, although probably the last time he'll be in it...more soon!

I can understand why Buffy was hurt.
And it sounds that Buffy just saw Spike with another girl because she was so hurt. But maybe it alone seeing Spike there that she is hurt again?

Buffy's on auto pilot, and maybe dating Riley will show she's really not ready to move on from Spike. This made me grin: “He’s a nice, good looking, well built guy. And he’s not even remotely my type, so you know he’s dependable.” Yeah, Faith probably looks at dependable and sees boring!

I enjoyed seeing Spike through Oz' nonjudgmental eyes. What a train wreck! This exchange had me laughing even though it was grim, too: “Bloody hell. I’m fired aren’t I?”


“Pretty much…Unless bartenders can work from home?”


“Even if they could,” Spike said, his voice muffled, “I never ran it by my boss before I tried out the idea.”


“Bummer.” Oz is so unflappable.

Excellent way to get Spike to turn a corner. He needs this distraction.

They've both reached complete crisis mode, and at least Buffy's had the opportunity to open up to somebody and Spike had the presence of mind not to take Harmony. Here's hoping this is the bottom and they're both ready to start healing.
