I had somehow missed this chapter until today. Sorry for that. I loved this chapter, I love how Spike can't stay away from Buffy, the way he reacted when she was in danger. I guess what Wesley said hit a little too close to home and that's why he reacted like that? Although I don't really see Spike as trying to kill her. Anyway, fantastic chapter, darling!
Author's Response: Yeah, Wesley just hit the wrong button there. Spike won't be trying to kill her, but of course, Wesley hasn't been witness to most of their interactions, so he doesn't have much to base what Spike might do on, except "vampire." Glad you're loving it, and thank you so much!

So... first of all, I'm really enjoying this story so far, despite my current 'allergy' to angst (usually I'm fine with it, just not lately). Altho this story is far from being angsty, I still wanted to point that out (maybe so you'll keep it light? :P). Anyway... can't wait to read more of it and see exactly how the Aurelius Reunion Party 2000 is going to go down. Also... curious about the whole Master business... is he still there? Is Darla? From the bits and pieces... apparently not, but you never now... I always did find Spike beating the crap (both with physical and verbal blows) out of all his elders highly entertaining.
Author's Response: Don't worry, I have a permanent allergy to angst. Small doses I can deal with, but angst is not a category I revel in, so the story will be as light as it's been. As for what other vampires are on the Hellmouth with Angelus, that will have to be a mystery for a bit longer, sorry! :) Thanks for reviewing!

I wasn't sure about this story when I began reading it , but now that I've read what you've posted so far, I felt the need to tell you how much I'm enjoying it. I'm a stickler for characterization, and your Buffy is spot-on, as is your Wesley. And mercenary Spike is absolutely fantastic. Go, go, go!!

So Spike is still playing Buffy's bodyguard; she would have been dead.
Not a good epiphany Buffy got and asked how long slayers would live. Well that's nothing she can decide or influence except always pay attention and be on her best (well trained).
And Spike is also very torn. ~ Now you made me curious how Spike will come to SD (reading your answer) :)

yey for spike-confusion. i like the read but i also think that spike is a tad too obvious, he should at least try to hide that he's confused - it would be more in character for him. not that i wouldn't enjoy him like you write him. update soon. and please, please make it something like a chapter!! i know that most spuffy writers tend to consider 1000 words a chapter but hell, it's not. even children's stories have longer chapters! anyway, it was a good chapter. thanks :)

I love this story. You've turned it into a real potboiler, what with Spike's malevolent/benevolent presence, Buffy's development from valley to hero girl and Wesley's involved .... but far more objective approach to just what is going down between these two. And now he's given her the cold, hard fact of life expectancy for a Slayer and the world has closed in upon her very, very suddenly. Beyond that, we know of a corrupt ex-Slayer whom the good guys presume is dead and the horrendous moment soon to come when Angelus meets Buffy .......

I really enjoy reading you story. The tension between Buffy and Spike is great. I hope Spike doesn't turn too soft too soon though. I can't wait until they get some alone time! Seems like Buffy's always with her watcher when Spike's around...hehe

On update in a week is more then some other WIPs even some get updated quicker; don't worry about it.
Oh clever.. so it was the Council trying Buffy to get to the hellmouth that got Joyce the job offer. Not so much of a coincidence then.
And she'll meet Angelus there... wonder how that will go. But Spike not knowing where Buffy will go to? I think he'll find a way to find out.

Damn! That last part with Faith and Angelus was hot, they're very well suited it seems. Love these flashbacks into her life as a Slayer. Interesting that the Council is trying to make this as painless as possible for Buffy, although I have the suspicion even if she moved to Sunnydale, Spike will eventually follow. Great chapter!

Another great chapter! Yep, this older Buffy is handling everything much better. She also has alot more control over her life than a 15 year-old would have, which makes the whole slayer gig easier. Not as much sneaking around required!
