Who does put money before love?

To have her and never really have her even when she is with you is what I thought while reading this. My heart poured out to William when she gave him that book it was like Buffy saying to him that she really knew who he was and loved him unlike anyone else and that she saw him for himself and loved him, in picking out that book she might as well pinned her heart to her sleeve too. You could see why he was so moved to ask her to marry him he thought with giving him that book she was giving him her whole heart.

He wants her so desperately as the reader you almost cringe at his bafflement and shock at her refusing him. He is so charmed by her that she even allows him to love her in the first place he does worship her and cannot really believe she would reject him I don't think it even occurred to him that she would he's been so besotted by her.

Her asking him if he got everything he wanted and him saying no and just the courage it would take for him to even ask her for more and the blind faith her would having in her love for him it was heart breaking to see him almost pleading with her to be with him. And you put it so well with Buffy having so many doubts about her age and no idea on being a wife or mother and this is even before the thoughts of being a slayer or lies she has told just to live in Williams house or time frame. That part where he whispers to himself "she said no" I just lost it and let the tears flow because you knew at that point a part of William died there and his belief in her love for him so he shuts completely down.

She knows instantly she made a huge mistake in not following her heart but the girl does have a calling and the guilt of knowing William does not know her completely and that is a huge thing too. And she try's to reach him but he's locked her out more then just out of his room.

I really liked the setting where William was drinking and speaking to himself because it shows his more Spike like nature when his emotional barriers are down you can see his more raw side in how he views himself. And you see him as a man with wants and needs and his full attraction to Elizabeth in not wanting to settle for what they already he has he wants closeness he wants it all and he wants her as his wife. And for a guy who probably in his whole life never really allowed himself to think he would ever have that in his life and to fully believe he found that in her where he could have full happiness to have it so quickly ripped away of course he couldn't fathom it he was completely destroyed in that moment.

Buffy is trying to fix things and does not want anyone to see William was drinking or have anyone notice things are off but walking into that room can only lead to two things either a huge hurt or sex and either of those things will change things forever and I'm thinking in not the way either of them would want. And to be honest I don't know if Buffy could ever fix that or make it better. Like with magic there will always be consequences and they will not be of the good.

I did not notice till today you left comments to your reviews I know mine tend to get long winded but this is a good story I like breaking it down to my favorite parts. I like to look at the levels of characterizations and study the writers point of view and make guesses as to where the storyline will go. I like how you portray the story and put the emotions there even when they are uncomfortable to see you really put a person into the telling and that's the making of a great writer.

Yeah, she better make it all right... I can't bear to see William in this state... it is so much like Spike, to drown his sorrow in a bottle, (or several, in this case)... I don't know how it will end, but I so want them together... Now, William being so drunk, and Buffy in his room, alone... at night...my my, so many possibilities... I wish they would get in on already, but Willam being victorian and all... very complicated!!!

I'm sorry it was hard to see William hurting--I was almost in tears writing it--but this part marks a huge turning point in the story. I hope you continue to enjoy where I'm going with it. my friend and I are both following this and were taking bets lol I don't think she will fix it by going in there because a drunken William might be a whole lot of Spike like and when Spike is hurt watch out. I see a drunk William not pulling her into bed I see him more lashing out at her and saying things he does not mean and Buffy running in Buffy fashion and my friend thinks they will sleep together but I say after the last time with Buffy trying that she learned it was not the way to go so think she would not do that because she knows William would hate himself for ruining her and she would not let him do that to himself.

A dinner is riding on this as to who comes the closest in plot guessing :P

I think she is just scared given her history and it makes total sense she'd say no given that she's not even sure she will be ther tomorrow or the next day. It was hard to see William so shattered but I have hope for them still :) Best chapter yet.
