Heartbreaking events and still so many thoughts of his love. This was a brutal chap. to read after I start this story last night and how it started out to getting to this point. It is really a battle of wills going on much more then just the act but it seemed to have to happen in orde for William to make a change.
I like this, it is log but so worth it do you have any other stories online? I would love to read any of your work.
Author's Response: I think a lot of people were shocked by the sudden change in tone from Part I of the story to Part II. I know this part is a little harder to read, but I'm so glad to hear that you like it anyway. Thanks so much for reviewing! :)
Right now, this is the only story I'm working on. I have another spuffy fanfic, but it's on indefinite hiatus until this one is finished. The other one needs a major overhaul, anyway. But when I get to working on it, I will definitely let you know! :)

I think I'm review # 1000!

Ok this was a terrible thing to happen to William but he must have known on some level Angelus was going to hurt him sooner or later and I hope Spike not only gets even he never sinks to Angelus level!
Fantastic update more soon please!!!
Pretty please?
:D
Author's Response: I am working on an update as we speak, so hopefully it won't be too much longer. Thanks so much for reviewing and helping me hit that 1000 mark! :)

This gives new meaning to the word hate. Is Angels soul coming on soon? I hope he suffers like no other and the years fly by for William cause heis just in so much pain right now and everyones whipped dog.
Author's Response: Don't worry, I'm fairly certain William's days as a "whipped dog" are drawing to a close. :)
Thanks for the review!

OMG. I've reviewed many times before and don't really want to repeat myself but this story is just fabulous. I'm not even really missing the Spuffy (I know you'll get there eventually) because I'm hooked reading your take on what happens to William/Spike. You end this chapter still referring to William as William, I'll have to wait and see if he starts the next one as Spike now his hatred of Angelus has been born? Looking forward to more and more of this - asap PLEASE.
Author's Response: At the moment, William is still, technically, William. But that won't last, as we all know.
I'm glad you liked the chapter, Sam. I always love reading your thoughts, so thanks for taking the time to review. :)

The defining moment between the two Aurelius demons: one dominating the other. Physical, violent, bloody. Debasement, with an audience. Angelus's strike to assert his control, his leadership, his power will, ironically, merely work the other way. Spike, left with his pain and humiliation is even now rational enough to understand that. In flaunting his power, Angelus loses his last vestige of admiration from Spike and, more importantly, the younger vampire's adherence to the expected pecking order of their quartet. There will be no more of that. Here, perhaps, is the birth of William the vampire, no longer the newest member of a family but just theirs now in name, not nature. Not any more. Here endeth Angelus's last lesson.
Your gripping, graphic chapter sees the emergence of Spike: argumentative, sarcastic, insightful and resolute. William would have crumbled under such base treatment. Spike learns from it; this harsh lesson frees him from the servitude of family that has been with him throughout life and beyond - that awful moment of capture brought not surrender, rather, his liberation.
Look forward to update.
Author's Response: I just loved reading your review, sue. It's like every single thing I was hoping to convey in this chapter you saw and understood implicitely. I can't tell you how great that makes me feel. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me such wonderful feedback. :)

I went and reread all of this story last night and I keep thinking with Buffy going back in time knowing what she did and then playing the role of Elizabeth and not telling William she knew him or knew he got turned in a lot of ways she is sort of irreversibly sort of responsible for a lot of the pain William goes through. She completely inadvertently changed every aspect of his life and then too his death and I'm not sure how well that is going to play out for her later down the line when they come face to face cause to really realize in full all of the awful things that happened to him to get to 120 plus years in the future again and see her again I do not think it will be a happy moment for him it be more like a complete betrayal by her when he has kind of immortalized her in his mind.
Ok this chapter was really like a meeting of two lions coming together cause I think A. realized W. was more then he anticipated probably up until now he thought of W. as nothing more then a toy of Dru's or a puppy he could teach new tricks. And then for W. to strike out at him and to actually knock A. to the ground the feud of the century was no on.
I am excited cause from here on out all the dynamics have changed.
Author's Response: That is a very astute observation. Buffy always knew the risks of becoming involved with William, and she did it anyway, without regard to what harm it might cause him. Naturally, that won't be without its consequences.
Thanks for the review. :)

The first sparks of Spikes rebellious nature and of things to come are about to happen. Just the fact that Angelus knew to taunt Spike with Elizabeths name gave me as the reader her enough reason to hate him even before the rape took place. I can see why Spike goes out of his way to become a thorn in Angel or Angelus side because of his hate towards him. Vampire dominance or the under belly of the evil worlds society rules Spike will have to become stronger to get his revenge. Overwhelming reactions to this update I am dying here for more.
Author's Response: I'm glad you liked it, luridmuse. Thank you for taking the time to review. :)

I am glad to see he is holding back on torturing unless needed and simply killing to eat now. He does not seem to want to become as devious and as evil as the others. Intense page and a lot of heartbreak but done with so much introspection of new Spike thoughts you give a real emotions and heart of the man in the monster. I think Drusilla did in a way want to comfort him cause on some level she too is just another victim of Angelus as well and God only knows what he did to her. This story continues to intrigue me and I want to read more of it all the time.
Author's Response: lol. Discerning fellow that he is, William has decided that only certain people are deserving of being tortured, but he doesn't mind killing the rest for revenge and food. Still, I think it does show a definite contrast between him and Angelus. It's a contrast that's always intrigued me and that I'm planning to explore in more detail.
I know the content of the chapter was hard to read, but I'm so glad you enjoyed it anyway. And I completely agree with you about Drusilla. She was an innocent victim once, and whatever she has become since has been molded by Angelus and, to a lesser extent, Darla.
Thanks so much for the review. I really love hearing your thoughts! :)

Fantastic read as always. You never disappoint.
Very well explained the reason why he doesn´t want to continue torturing his victims. Make very much sense with the Spike from canon.
I like very much the way you are creating Spike. Before I read your story I had always wondered why he changed his name to Spike. I mean I new from canon that it had to do with the railroad spikes he put through his victims head, of course. But I couldn´t understand why he didn´t remain William the Bloody. I mean why he had to renegade from his name. But the way you explained it, With the loss of his own identity where Angelus is telling him that he is not William anymore, his confusion and at the same time his search for a new identity.
He is so acting like at rebel teenager... The change of image, the change of accent, the cigarettes, the cockiness , the giddiness, and most of all the not thinking about the consequence of his actions.:
When Angelus says:
“You dumped that Havisham person in a manure pile outside a livery less than a block from here!”
William had forgotten about that.
“Well, I’m willing to admit that one was rather reckless—”
It almost made me laugh. I could just see Spikes face in front of me with that particular expression of his when he just found out that he made a mistake and his "ups" attitude about it.
And there is nothing that angers a parent more than when a "snotty child" answers back and doesn.t have respect for his elders.
And here Angelus was the angry father, who just got struck by his disrespectful son...
It´s said that most of the times rape is more about dominance than sex, even though it was creepy to read. Specially afterwards when William thinks about it as something not planned but anticipated, Like that Angelus was waiting for an excuse to do just that to him... The times he woke up and Angelus was starring at him. "Uff"
The last sentence of the chapter was very interesting:
"I don´t have to do what you say, anymore"
Can´t wait to see what happens next!!!!!
Author's Response: That rebellious teenager analogy is absolutely perfect! In the early weeks, William was like a wide-eyed boy following Angelus' lead. Now, he's starting to think for himself, explore his own indentity. Naturally, Angelus isn't really pleased about the burst of independence. He liked having a *student* but he wants to avoid having *competition.* And you're right, rape is about dominance and control, not about sex. Sex is just the most extreme way to control someone...you're taking their most intimate act and taking it by force. I know it was not the most pleasant thing to read about, but your grasp on the dynamics of it is perfect.
Thanks so much for the wonderful review. I always love hearing your thoughts. :)

GROSS!!!! WAT A BASTARD!!!!!!!! but of course angelus was going to be a bastard. im so glad that spike/ william hates him, i didnt like him liking angelus, it was unnatural. i love this story so much and am so happy that u updated. im so sad that william has put buffy and the ring to the back of his mind, but as long as he holds on to the love he feels for her its all good. i really hope that william/spike continues to get stronger and go against angelus and not love dru. also i hope that soon enough spike and buffy will meet again and that wen they do things work out well. please update as soon as u can, i cant wait to read more. thanx
Author's Response: I know it was a hard scene to get through, but I'm glad I didn't chase you away. :)
I think it was only natural for William to cling to Angelus at first. After all, Angelus played "father" to him in his earliest days as a vampire. But it couldn't last. William/Spike is much too intelligent to allow himself to be bullied.
Although he's struggling to put Buffy into the back of his mind, you're right, he does love her. In a way, he's showing love even when he's trying not to think of her, because he doesn't think he's worthy of her memories now.
I'm glad you liked the chapter and thanks so much for reviewing. :)

Poor William, Angelus is such an ass. William sure is changing.
I am loveing this story, it keeps getting better and better! Your doing a great job!
Author's Response: William is adaptable, which is probably a good thing, considering how different his life is now. I'm glad you like what he's changing into. Since we all know that the end result is Spike, I'm really glad to hear that I'm doing the character justice. Thanks for the review. :)

Spike revelling in the notoriety was beautifully described, and you conveyed his sense of pride in his accomplishments without making me lose sight of his sense of William. His disconnect from Drusilla makes sense and is working in the context of the story. Angelus' brutality was vivid and awful, but its aftermath, Spike realizing the attack was calculated, chilled me to the bone.
This is a wholly different portrait of Spike, Angelus and Drusilla than I am used to reading, and I'm enjoying your take on the dynamic.
Author's Response: I actually really had a hard time coming to terms with this chapter. I finished it several days ago, but the scene between William and Angelus disturbed me so much, I had to take a step back before proof reading and sending it to beta. I know it was a hard thing to read about, as well. But things could go no other way between them. I'm glad you see that, and that you are still enjoying the story. As always, thank you for the wonderful feedback. :)

With all stories there are the higest highs and the lowest lows when you wanna snatch the people right out of the book and keep them from being hurt and this was one of those pages. You took a horiffic act and made it into something that will make a change in William to take a stand for himself and make some changes. This was hard to read with his morning Elizabeth and his exceptance of his current life and then end it on a tidal wave but all bad things can lead to better times a head.
I love reading this it is a huge underdating and you never disappoint.
Four stars in my book

Such a fantastic chapter. The writing is so real and its so easy to picture everything in your minds eye. There are sort of no words to describe Angelus but a soft burning hatred wouldn't be far off. It was heartbreaking to read Drusilla finding that he mumbles Elizabeth's name in his sleep. Love that he fought back when Angelus was about to say her name.
Great update, was so happy to see it there, can't wait to see more!
Author's Response: Thanks so much, squawks. :)
