Sorry for the delay in my review! I just moved. :-P

I still love this story and look forward to every update. This chapter was full of action. Action is not usually my thing, but you wrote it in a style that made it entertaining to read.

I do have a question about where you're taking Spike. From some of your earlier comments, you said that the circumstances under which William was embraced (having known love and acceptance) would change Spike. However, he seems to be pretty much the same vampire we all know and love.

Am I jumping to conclusions? Did I not pick up on some character changes in the last few chapters? Let me know; I really want to understand what you're doing and make sure I didn't miss anything.

Author's Response: Some changes to his character have already been alluded to ... the most obvious of which, of course, has been his ambiguous feelings for Drusilla. However, several other deviations from canon are coming. You'll see what I mean soon enough. ;) Thanks for reading! :)

Wanted to read it again before I reviewed - just to make sure. This is fab and I could read it forever. Your descriptive writing is well, I can't do it justice. I did think it was interesting that Angelus passed comment about Spike not going into game face and having forgotten his place. It always seemed to me that in AtS Angel very rarely showed his vampire features, he would fight in his human guise. Anyway can't wait for the next installment - LOVE IT.

I'll be honest and admit that a lot of times I find myself skimming through action scenes for a number of reasons,,,but with your fic...I couldn't take my eyes away. The Spike vs. Angelus scene was extremely well-written and full of visuals. I was able to picture them fighting almost as if I was in the same room with them. Brava.

And you replied back to my last review that I sound like an Angelus fan. :) I -love- Angelus, and Darla, and Drusilla (especially more in fanfic) so this historical setting you have us in with the fanged four is a real treat. And the fact that Elizabeth is Spike's first love makes it all the more wonderful.

It was great seeing an update from you, and I as always, I'll be waiting for the next installment :)

Angelus being set to rights by this absolutely irreverent, well trained Spike was vivid and entertaining. Spikes so cock sure, it's a delight to read as he's beating Angelus into oblivion, intimidating Darla and stealing Drusilla away.

Angelus' underlying attraction to being dominated was no surprise, and it marked another facet to their complicated relationship. Spike's dismissal of Darla s an adversary may be short sighted, but the bath scene was wonderful. The image of Spike jumping in fully clothed and seducing Dru under Darla's "scandalized" eye made me grin with delight. This was another wonderfully vivid chapter.

Hi. Good chapter, and I'm still waiting for more. Although I don't think that in the TV show version of Spike/Angelus relationship Spike really got a chance to play the role of the Alpha male, still, in your story it's good.

Author's Response: Thanks so much for the review. :) To address a couple of your comments, on AtS, Spike did beat Angel in a fight for the Shanshu ("Destiny"). He also was completely kicking Angelus' butt in BtVS's "Becoming Part II" until Dru pulled him off. That being said, however, I don't think Spike was being an "Alpha Male" in this chapter. He won due to his opportunistic nature, not because he was in any way stronger than Angelus. But he saw the broken chair leg and used it as a stake to wound his grandsire. They lost the stake and while Angelus went to retrieve it, Spike used the opportunity to pin him down. Like his defeat of the Chinese Slayer, Spike's win over Angelus was due partly to luck and partly to his innate cunning ... not because he is necessarily the physically stronger of the two. And just because he won this battle it does not mean he will win another.

Tumultuous chapter for the Aurelian males. The way you are fleshing out the years of the Fanged Four beyond canon, is nothing short of brilliant. You keep completely in character with all of them, and your William has now most creditably become Spike. It has almost been like the survival of the fittest; he has had to stifle William under a huge blanket of cunning and violence and instant gratification, in order to move from day to day. The rewards of this persona far outweigh the trials that he suffered as William, even as a vampire. The fledgling receded with William. The vampire emerges, as Spike.

Bravo.
