This is a great premise and you're handling it very well. The events leading into the story have certainly altered Buffy and Spike and you're doing a great job conveying their changed circumstances and their emotional impact. This cowed, trained Spike is already interesting, and I'm looking forward to learning more about the past four years. Buffy, too, is well written.
I'm really enjoying this and can't wait to read more.

I love a story that can really get a rise out of me, and this one is pressing all the right buttons. You've pretty successfully sent me into mother bear mode. I want to protect Spike and kill everyone involved in his capture and "training." Kudos! It's great to find an author who can evoke that kind of visceral response. Waiting a week between chapters is torturous, but you seem impervious to bribes. Oh well... Until next Monday then!

A most excellent chapter. Your description of Spike's painful discomfort had me squeezing my knees together in sympathy - and I'm a girl!
Poor vampire, he's all but broken, isn't he? And, Buffy is pretty much unaware of the extent of his suffering, although Tara's senses were going haywire. I do hope Willow manages to hack into their system.... and maybe de-activates Spike's chip, huh?
I think what I like most about this story is that it looks as though it's going to be a novel adventure and it has a bigger cast than just Buffy and Spike (who I adore actually, but a good story needs more than two players to sustain interest) which broadens interest and doesn't constrain the writer. You took the time to give the characters working at the auctions some depth too, which is nice.
