Yes, good Meret. Good vision-sending serpent. Many exsanguinated rats for her. Or whatever she likes. *pets the coatl* Amazing how you've made me so fond of fictional snake – I think it helps if I think of her as a bird. *g*
And I don't think anyone would have begrudged Spike a little weep after the week he had.
Very nice chapter, even better on rereading when I wasn't worried. I liked the Spike POV on his healing. The reunion scene was touching without being overly sentimental. "It's enough." Deftly done.
Author's Response: I love reptiles so much that it's easy for me to forget that a lot of people really, really don't. Thanks for giving my little serpent a chance (and taking the time to review) anyway!

Author's Response: Nothing like a little immature pranking to remind us all of Spike's real age. Oh wait... ;-) Thanks for reviewing!

Great update! Loved Spike's antics. Swatting Xander back of t he head, etc. And let's not forget little Meret. Do we find out Maclin's patron?
Author's Response: Yes, in the last chapter. Thanks for reviewing!

Yay!!!!!!!! That turned out beautifully, and Meret is one smart cookie.
I'm sure Buffy's new ring looks beautiful on her finger.
Giles hiding something...hmm....
Spike testing the twinges by smacking Xander and pinching Anya....that's hysterical. Well, hey, he's a better ally now. He can actually protect Dawn and Buffy and Tara now, if needed.
I wonder what he gave them for Christmas.....?
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm kind of laughing at myself, because I didn't even think about the timing when I decided that I wanted the include the Christmas stuff at the end of the story.

Only one more part? (I thought it would be longer (because I remembered that I read that the first half was "Spike-centric" and the second half was "Spuffy-centric".. or something like that.) So Spike survived so far. And Buffy is there too. A trick they used for the sorcerer. And it seems the chip is broken. Mmmm best healer: Slayer blood. And Meret brought Buffy the Sangre de Cristo ruby. He had thought about it enough to alert Meret to do so I think. Oh and since the chip did burn out Spike will be able to train with Buffy. Christmas... and Spike has gifts. Looking forward to find out what he did get everyone. And vice versa.
Author's Response: Some of my best laid plans got tweaked, and I'm planning on writing a sequel. (Um, oops?) Thanks for reviewing!

Spike's resurrection at Buffy's hand in Joyce's bed was emotional and an excellent way to begin this chapter's theme of his acceptance into the Scooby fold. I thoroughly enjoyed your description of his adolescent antics upon learning of the diminished powers of the chip. Meret's active role in Spike's rescue and Buffy's recovery was an interesting side bar, and I'm still wondering about Maclin's patron.
Author's Response: I'll hopefully clean up the rest of the loose ends in the next chapter. I'm glad you liked the healing scene. It was a toughy to write. Thanks for reviewing!

Awww! I'm so glad Spike's okay and tha Buffy cared enough for him to feed him with her blood. Can't wait to know what the girfts are and what does the envelope holds. More, please?
Author's Response: Of course! Thanks for reviewing!

One present for Buffy. One present for Dawn. One present for Tara. One pre...se...n...t for me? Erm... WW... where's my present from Spike, hmm? *pouts*
So... Giles knows something about Maclin's mysterious 'patron', eh? And... Buffy fed her blood to Spike. *sqeeeeyessss*sighshappysighs*!
Only one more installment? WHAT?! Noooo.... surely you jest, WW? This is the start of a novel length adventure. The beginning of the Coatlverse. Please?
*Chrissie gets out her magic flute, sits cross-legged on floor and starts to play mesmerising, hypnotic melody to WW*
Author's Response: *Falls under spell. Drools a little.* Will. Write. Sequel. There's Spike's present for you. I spent too much time looking up obscure snake myths for this story to have not come up with a few ideas. I have another little project in the works right now, but I am planning on coming back to the "coatlverse." Thanks for reviewing!

Excellent, action packed chapter. Spike, consumed by guilt and rage, fighting through the chip to kill Maclin was especially well realized. I'm on pins and needles wondering what happened to Buffy and Meret.
Author's Response: :-D Thank you! Some of my friends told me that I should have posted a warning that I wasn't going to be able to update for a month at the end of this chapter, but even I couldn't be that mean. The rest of the story will be up soon!

Excellent descriptions throughout this chapter. I could feel Spike's impotent rage at the magician and the entire kidnapping scenario. Maclin's motives are still unclear, and you're doing a good job keeping the story moving.
Author's Response: Thank you! Hopefully the next chapter will clear up some of your questions.

Sorry that I don't always leave a review, because I love this story -- you're doing such a great job. Keep up the good work
Author's Response: I'm just as guilty about not always leaving feedback, so no worries. I always appreciate it when you do though. Thanks!

Wow... the might of a tortured mind can never be underestimated. Spike's demented rage must have saved the day, but at what cost to himself?
Something went wrong though... Maclin had let loose his hold on Dawn, something had affected him. Possibly something done by Willow? If so, maybe Buffy and Meret were protected by means Spike was unaware of and his actions might have been unnecessary. And who is this 'she' Maclin talks about? This patron who so specifically requested Spike be the tool Maclin used for thie heinous scheme?!
So much to speculate upon, and so little hard evidence. My brain is hurting... Great update. Thank you, pet.
Author's Response: Thank for reviewing! I'll be tying up those questions over the next little bit.

... but can't help worrying about Meret.
It can't be a happy ending if Meret's dead, right?
*wibble*
Author's Response: Mwahaha!! You'll have to wait and see! Thanks for reviewing!

Date: 01/03/2006 - 03:48 am Title: Crossing the Rubicon
.... holds out hope that Meret continues her habit of showing off the shiny objects to Buffy.
Author's Response: I would recommend checking out Spike's "dream" sequence for a clue as to that guess. Thanks for reviewing!

GAAAAAHHHHH! GAAAAAHHHH! GAAAHHHHH!
You can't stop it there!!!! What happens next?!
Author's Response: And that is why I'm hiding in a bunker right now! I'll be updating soon. Thanks for reviewing!

Evil! Evil, I tell you! Wow, two cliffhangers in a row. Did i mention you're evil?
